I lived in mounthurst rd in the 50s & 60s & remember the pub but was to young to use it, as most of the estate was built in the early 50s i do remember playing on the site where the pub was to be built which I think was around 1960, I did use the beacon a few times in the 70s when I was visiting the area & do remember it was an ok basic pub that even then was a bit run down, shame to see thats it's gone. philjesop - 10 Aug 2011 00:32 |
My parents owned the Beacon in the 70's - 80's .. and my dad was the big irish guy called Pat (he was actually American from New York) haha. great pub, loved living there as a kid.. went back quite a few times and it was still a lovely pub. Was gutted to find out it had been demolished. Sad news but still have the memories.. Magicofkarma - 12 Feb 2011 20:29 |
CLOSED - went past on the weekend and it's all boarded up with planning notice for property development. juliatheakston - 17 Sep 2010 13:52 |
I was inexplicably unaware of this pub's existence despite having lived 10-15 mins away for the best part of 25 years; had never seen it mentioned online and only found it via a random Google Maps "pub" search. Was surprised to find a fairly large pub (two bars) in a suburban Hayes estate. Only one ale on (a reasonable London Pride), darts, pool and a good jukebox. The service was also welcoming and friendly, though not sure if this was the same barmaid noted by pubcollector! Dartitis - 26 Mar 2008 14:53 |
Grew up in this pub, perfect 70's council estate local. Popped in a year ago, nothing changed. Friendly warm local watering hole. Never a problem. The sort of pub where on Sunday lunch you can drink with your dad,son and grandad and no one would look out of place. Miss the Sunday night "Drum & Piano" but that was a long time ago.....Long may it run. Not sure who the manager is now but some great ones in the past. Great big Irish bloke called Pat, Billy Forsythe to name a couple. Drunk there from the age of 14 , carried me dad home twice too anonymous - 25 Mar 2006 02:12 |
