I am new to the area and was recommended to eat here by a work friend.
I went for my first time this weekend & had a wonderful meal.
It is nice to see programs like The Great British menu seem to be affecting the way menus are put together & its good to see seasonal local produce on the menu.
Great food, great wine, great service & great atmosphere.
Couldnt ask for more I would highly recommend it.

Food bland and over priced, the guy behind the bar was "The Big I AM" with his leg up on the shelf behind the bar. I wanted to take my wife out for a nice meal and had been past many times. What a mistake!! the food was so overpriced, believe me i dont mind paying for good quality food however the place was so up its own backside and the food was so bland. You are frowned apon if you just come in for a drink and since talking to some of my friends, they have been suprised that we had even been there, as they have all found it awful for a long time. Is it a pub or a restaurant??? no one knows and i feel "The Rainbow" dont do either one very well.

We motored out to the Rainbow from Lewes as we wanted the ambience of a country pub rather than the noise and bustle of the town. The pint of Harvey's Best Bitter was one of the best I have tasted and the Steak was cooked to perfection. We dined in the sunshine on a perfect crisp winters day and enjoyed exemplary service. This pub has all of the attributes needed for success: Food, atmosphere, good ale and wine, friendly, knowledgeable service and price.

After years of average ho-hum gastropubbery, this place has recently taken off. The new, young kitchen team are producing exceptional, inventive dishes from locally sourced ingredients and the serving staff, under the expert direction of the Manager, Ed, are attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list is a marvel, both in scope and layout, and the two local brews are kept and served in tip-top condition. A renaissance indeed!

We had a perfect family Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago and I have since been back with a couple of mates for a few beers and a snack supper. This is a really good combination of pub and restaurant with none of the stuffiness you sometimes find with foodie pubs. Our 3 children were welcomed and well provided for on the lunch visit which enabled us all to relax and enjoy the couple of hours we spent there. This is a really civilised establishment.
