Paid a visit here after missing our connecting train at Bolton station. It's certainly handy for the station. But so is the Sweet Green, which as I remember is a better pub. This place is a Marstons pub, which used to be a gay pub. I'm not sure if it still is. But it was fairly quiet on our visit. Two ales were available - Banks's Sunbeam & Marstons Long Hop. The former was in good condition. It's a fairly spacious pub with plenty of seating. blue_scrumpy - 28 Aug 2011 14:21 |
Handy to the rail station when those trains are inevitabley cancelled, don't be scared by the "GAY" reputation, absolutely fantastic landlords who respect their clientelle (WITHOUT REFERENCE TO SEXUALITY/COLOUR). Just being done up so ignore last comment re: dingieness and swing on the chandaliers over the bar instead.Excuse my flippancy it's just a really cool place to have a drink without any worries and encapsulates the traditional northern welcome, so join us, have a laugh and offer comments on the excessive planting within the beer garden, the three D's will enjoy that. Bye the way Dennis is the password ! kiwisaul - 2 Jun 2008 02:17 |
Bit dark and dingy, - although that might be a positive plus for some punters! - it is nice to have a G/L pub in Bolton that's neither tucked away in the back of beyond or ripping the punters off. In fact, it couldn't be much nearer the station! Would like it to be lighter and airier, and agree that the choice of ales is way too limited, but it's much better than the now-closed Church round the corner. Would be nice if they could get recent copies of "The Pink Paper" in there for something to read! Howardfh - 9 Feb 2008 00:11 |
A thriving gay pub, only shame is no real ales. alexw - 18 Aug 2007 23:18 |
