Closed for building work when I passed through Wincanton today. Hope it emerges undamaged. jgurney1 - 14 Feb 2012 13:05 |
Great pub. Very traditional (read: scruffy) but I found it very welcoming. Small beer garden caters well for smokers (well covered seating area and caustomer-controlled heaters). As above, real ales ok (Yeovil brewery?), the ever reliable Stoford Press cider and Thatchers scrumpy excellent as ever. Particularly the red one (Cheddar Valley) which may be too dry for some palates. A note of caution, Thatchers is even stronger than its 6% suggests, I would not recommend driving after even a pint. I went in with a friend (who doesn't drink a lot) for one pint on a Saturday lunch time. We came out 5 hours later, drunk, smiling and skint. A great selection of ciders and beers and a friendly bunch of staff and customers. What more could you want from a pub. Thoroughly recommended. BernardZ - 26 Jul 2010 01:02 |
Quirky small town pub - locals' (public) bar to the right, 'saloon' to the left. Quite an experience - you have to go into the locals' bar to see the pump clips and the quietly raucous bonhomie ceases immediately as you cross the threshold while all eyes focus on you. You order your pint and beat a hasty retreat to the 'other' bar and the hubub resumes. That apart, you can't fault the local beers - the excellent Merlin's Magic (Moor Brewery, Ashcott) the equally excellent Ruby (Yeovil Brewery) and Butcombe Bitter. BobOs - 28 Oct 2008 13:07 |
Although small, and full of locals, there is a friendly welcoming atmosphere in this pub! Cosy little nooks to sit in and 'rocket fuel' strength cider on tap. Kareoke night here are something to be seen also! lisajules - 22 Nov 2006 16:17 |
