It was indeed burned down. Now a derelict shell. jgurney1 - 21 Apr 2013 23:57 |
I understand that this closed a few months back and has now been a victim of arson. Jules_B - 9 Oct 2011 17:59 |
Ye Gods! A friend recommended this place, so I had to try it. (It just proves she has no taste whatsoever) Two ales on, both from Cottage and not very good, but just about drinkable. Food IS, as has been mentioned, astronomically overpriced. 16-50 for two courses, but if you just want starter only, that's a mere 6-50, or for a main course 13-80! Well, we tried it anyway. Herself had a fish thingy with salmon etc., and I had mussels. We both had steak with straw chip things probably more suitable for McDonalds, a single baked shallot and some green beans. The green beans were OK, but the steak, although well cooked, was of poor quality to start with. Perhaps I should have been suspicious when we were presented with a selection of home made breads prior to the meal arriving. The starters took forever to arrive, as did the main course. The "chef" responsible was obviously obsessed with presentation, as the food scored on that, and that alone. The mussels were tasteless but tarted up, as was the steak. Any seasoning was barely detectable visually but not at all in any area of the mouth. The service was polite, bordering on smug, however, this was the most disappointing pub with respect to ale and vittles I have ever had the displeasure to endure. Will I return? Not bloody likely! Come on Brian Turner, we expected better of you. The_Final_Arbiter - 23 May 2010 11:13 |
Used to go in here once a month for food. Then it was very good value with a good choice of ales. Tried it again recently and am very dissapointed. Food nothing special and overpriced, poor choice of not very well kept ales. Shant be going again until it changes hands. Jules_B - 29 Oct 2009 10:10 |
Recently acquired by a consortium which includes a northern 'celebrity' chef. (That's a cook who's charging loadsa money) The_Final_Arbiter - 28 Jun 2008 15:58 |
