Six ales on the go when I visited - opted for and stayed on all night the Boulby Blonde from the Staithes Brewery - it was a fine ale and after 7 I walked 20 miles the next day! I also stayed here and the landlord was very friendly pulling down big screen and putting on England game. The tarrif for a large double room was 25 and this included a fine breakfast - Recommended. kernott1 - 14 Sep 2012 20:59 |
Visited here a few times while in Staithes this week -- one of our favourites when in the area. Excellent beer, well-kept. It's certainly a bit run down, but it suits us perfectly. If you care more about the beer than the decor, this is for you. mosey - 15 May 2012 21:16 |
This place could be a cracking place, however, what it really needs is someone with a pair of ladders and a paintbrush to tackle the battered looking exterior first. For those that venture inside, it doesn't get much better with a tired decor which includes tatty, worn and shiny carpets, areas of staining on the wall and a lighbulb hanging without any form of shade. There are positives though, and this is provided by the fine array of six real ales from micro breweries (on our visit, they held a festival which upped the selection to around thirty !). The beer seems well kept and the locals are friendly, you just get the impression that the pub needs a lot more attention. Would have definatly marked this pub higher if it wasn't so run down, but still worthy of a visit if in Staithes and you fancy a great pint of real ale ! SouthYorkshireman - 22 Apr 2011 23:02 |
Like mph I thought the pub was closed but was glad we persevered. Fantastic! The landlord was laid back and very nice, the natives were friendly and the 6 ales we tried between us were brilliant. After walking down into Staithes we just had to dash back for another few drinks before we got the bus. chick - 19 Oct 2009 10:45 |
Never judge a book by it's cover. The pub looks closed down and tatty from the outside. It's different once you get inside. It's worse. I like my pubs rough and ready but this is just plain dirty. The toilets didn't work and the barman was indifference personified. I was thinking of staying overnight but I think I might have caught something. I have spoken to someone who goes there frequently and they said that I caught them on a bad day and should give them another chance which I will do. Also, in their defence, the football was on and everybody seemed engrossed in the game. The beer did look magnificent and they were selling Credit Crunch Ale at 95p a pint which you can't get nasty with. I'm giving it another go next week so i'll report back then. mph - 20 Apr 2009 19:51 |
