This is probably my most difficult pub to review. Looked in here last year but my first impression put me off staying. Had the same feeling this year but thought I ought to at least give it a chance. Being a nice sunny day all the customers were outside sitting at a couple of tables. They seemed to be all local people, mostly young men wearing their work-soiled clothes and using some workman-like-language. See what I mean about first impressions? But I'll tell you what, they were the most pleasant and polite bunch you could meet. Now for inside the pub. From the brightness outside to the darkness inside. The gloom slightly disguised the pub had not been decorated since the war (the great war). Ordered food which turned out to be enjoyable. Beers on the bar; Lushington's Sunshine IPA, Tribute and HSD. All served by the very friendly bar girl, Rachel. Glad we stayed. fugglehops - 22 Jul 2019 18:07 |
A locals' pub and all the better for it. Thank you for the kindness showed to my recently disabled wife...we were well fed and watered....well fed and beered actually...menu dependent on weather..if they're out fishing then there's fish on the menu! But, regardless, there will be a warm welcome, food 'n beer..what more do you want? Insearchofthebestpint - 23 May 2014 23:03 |
Give this a miss, things haven't changed since the 2007 comment about missing landlord and abusive customers. Either Mr Clayton caught it on a good day or he has rose coloured specs. Been in nicer pub's in the backend of the deprived area's of inner City's. Some of the residents nearby said they would rather go T total than use the pub under the current Landlord M Jones. If you find yourself in the village and the British Legion is open use that instead, and ask in there before venturing to the Rod and Line, hopefully it may have a new Landlord the next time i visit. There are 3 other pubs about 2 or so miles in most directions, try them,The Elliot,St Germans,The Halfway House Polbathic or The Bullers arms Landrake, all far outstrip this one. realalemonkey - 11 Oct 2009 00:57 |
My wife & I were put off by the crowd of drunks sitting outside swearing and making offensive comments to people as they entered the pub. No sign of the landlord keeping order. Never again! anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 22:35 |
The pub is renowned throughout the area for the condition of its beers, the quality of the food and its warm welcome to visitors. In winter there is always a log fire to cheer locals and visitors alike. Across the road from the pub there is a large children's play area and a large public car park. A proper Pub where all are welcome no hostile stares for strangers here. So why do i only rate is 9? 1 point lost due to? No make it 10 cant fink of any reason to knock a point off.
