Called in here on an emotional high en route back home after witnessing the awesome sight and sound of the two Lancaster Bombers flying low over the Derwent Dams on Sunday afternoon. The main reason for calling was to have a pee, but I believe its only courtesy to stop for a swift drink. I wished I hadn't bothered. Being charged £3.90 for what was a VERY ordinary pint of Bradfield Brewery Farmer's Blonde (4% ABV) is a complete rip off.

There can be no justification for charging prices like that … it is nothing but GREED. There is not even an electric hand drier in the gents – just paper towels.

I have a very strong aversion being ripped off. 0/10.

Used to be an asset to the area with its campsite and normal prices. Now it's just a pretentious restaurant. I don't mind fools being parted from their money easily but I do resent a local useful facility being turned into a mere parasitic money making business. This place desn't deserve the honourable title of "pub". Clip joint would be more appropriate. To update, beer is now £3.90 a pint.

Popped in the other day enticed by the sign which read "Free House" expecting to find myself in a pub (remember those?) only to find a restaurant with a small uncomfortable pew for drinkers.

With beer at 3.50 a pint and a bag of nuts at 1 I felt I'd been had. Fortunately my missus wasn't with me as a glass of wine would have broken the bank.

Revisited this place after a couple of years and I'm impressed. It is still expensive but the quality is better than previously. It still lacks some pub atmosphere in the actual building but there is nowhere better in the area to while away a sunny afternoon with a few friends and drinks. Food is ambitious (tries to be all things to all people, posh food but toasties too!) and pretty good, but not as good value as, say, the Samuel Fox in Bradwell. Welcoming service and food all day told me someone is serious about making this place a real success. Good luck to them

Stayed here last week. Lovely room. Really excellent food and ale and good staff. Will certainly stay here again.
