Great British Pub Staff christmas meal with colleagues. The pub is very clean and beautiful. Nice atmosphere, The food was absolutely delicious and well presented throughout. The staff we extremely good . We were a small table of about 8 and the restaurant was not too busy. Would definitely go back again. paul444 - 27 Jan 2013 18:02 |
This once superb pub restaurant is now under new management. BEWARE...on deciding to go and try out the new menu after seeing the advertising, we booked for 7pm as we were used to this restaurant being busy and in demand. We arrived at 6.50pm and sat down. We tried to order a jacket potato for a younger member of the family and were informed that these we not done for dinner service (fair enough), but then when another member ordered the steak and ale pie they were offered a jacket potato instead of chips...this seems totally illogical and bad customer service...never the less the order went in for soup, a burger and steak and ale pie at 6.55pm, After waiting for an hour and being ignored by the waiting staff we had had more than enough especially seeing other tables that came in after us being served. On raising the issue with the manager at the bar there was no apology or any offer of recompense just a statement that they would have to tell the kitchen not to do our food.... I find it astounding that they felt it was an acceptable amount of time for such basic dishes! We will not be returning or recommending to any family and friends to go there to eat any longer....a very sad outcome for a once brilliant restaurant BluesOne - 8 Sep 2012 23:01 |
Once again enjoyed a lovely lunchtime meal, ( outside in the sunshine no less!) , despite the change of management its nice to see that the staff are still the sameand that the quality of food and service hasn't changed in the slightest. Definitely worth a visit! peterlouise30 - 22 May 2012 20:44 |
First let me state, I have a real problem with Greene King beer, not sure why but there is nothing inspiring about Abbott and GK IPA is not an IPA in the real sense. These two seem to be the stock house ale, so everything was down to the guest beer - Yorkshire Terrier from the York Brewery, thank the lord that this malty bitter was well kept. That said I'd worry if the guest ale wasn't good! So what makes this pub worth visiting? Its the food, not so much the quality as this is no Gastro Pub but the quantity and sheer good value. This probably makes this pub a super meeting point in the evening for the community of Birchanger and a favourite with travellers using Stansted Airport looking for a decent meal before departure. Good friendly welcome, very helpful bar staff. Not much wrong with this pub that a few more real ales might sort out! Max1905 - 3 Feb 2011 09:24 |
