It's some 5 years since I last wrote about the Castle, I returned yesterday, as they hosted a friends Funeral wake. What a transformation. An excellent turn around by the current incumbents. We were all served with no trouble at all, both food and drink's. Nothing was too much trouble at all, and as I sat there looking the staff were always going round clearing up, and keeping us well satisfied, and all with smiling efficient faces. Various food nights were recommended, which I am told are really very good indeed, from some of the locals I'd spoken too. Have too give this a 10. This is what all pubs should be like. james55westhead - 8 Mar 2014 08:36 |
do yourselves a favour and ignore the outdated reviews between 25 August 2006 and the 27 July 2010 as even I could not argue with them at the time of posting they have no relevance to the premises today since the posting on 27 July 2010 the pub was bought by joules brewery of Market Drayton and has undergone a major revamp and with licensees Richard and Dee at the helm along with friendly staff ,a new customer base the castle as risen like a phoenix from the flames offering fine ales and superb food freshly home cooked this is how a pub should be but don't take my word for it try it you won't be disappointed! adrianr - 23 Jul 2013 17:22 |
Best pub in town for me selling Joules 3 beers from 7 pumps split 4/3 in two bars I tried the Pale Ale and the Slumbering Monk both were tip top @ £2.80 a pint. In at about 1.00pm so only a few customers who were being well behaved. This place is currently rated at 2.8 which is a joke!! 8/10 for me. bjbrummiejohn - 13 Feb 2013 12:57 |
Disregarded this pub after previous reviews and tried The Old Post Office. What a mistake!! TOPO were selling crap beer at 1.50 to 2.20 a pint. Cheap yes, but the clientelle were the dregs as much as the beer was. In front of me and the missus some drunken sot told everyone he was going for a w*nk outside ( and it had nothing to do with his glazed eyes!) The barmaid (ha, ha - "maid"!!) just ignored him! So we went over the Castle and what a lovely place it is! Very roomy, friendly staff - offered a taster to everyone unsure of the beers. Its a Joules Brewery outlet and the beer was well kept. The food was very good too - big fat homemade chips. The ploughmans platter was a struggle for the missus - loads of it! Give it a go! brewmaster54 - 11 Aug 2012 12:23 |
