| Made a special trip here for my friends birthday, first called last May. Unfortunately it is no longer run by the same landlord, so the pies have gone. Asked if they still did them, and was told that people wanted a choice of foods, I would have to disagree as apart from ourselves there was one other couple in. Landlord and his wife were very welcoming, the food was nice but not special. I wish them well but I think the writing is on the wall. peterladd - 8 Jun 2015 22:28 |
| This pub is one of the best kept secrets in East Yorkshire. Don't tell too many people though as it may lose its great attraction if too many people visit it all at once. The great new thing is the vast number of different home made pies you can get here which are delicious and huge in size and which go well with the choice of beers including a few which change regularly. | Remote village pub with limited opening hours at present (7-11 Wed-Sun). We arrived here one Sunday night at opening time and whilst only here for half an hour before our journey back to London, we were the only people apart from the landlord. He explained that he was recently looking to purchase another pub in Hull, but the sale had fallen through. Whilst he was winding down this pub (hence the limited hours), he now plans to build up business again and extend the opening hours. Whilst the place is really remote, it's also an atmospheric and classic example on an English village pub. Shepherd Neame Spitfire was the guest ale during our visit. | When we visited a couple of years ago, it was a Cask Marque pub. A long time ago so I can't actually remember what I drank but I do know it was very well kept beer. Very friendly place frequented by the local residents of this hamlet but even us townies were made very welcome and didn't feel out of place as is the case in some locals where everyone knows one another. tigermum - 29 Feb 2008 11:56 |
