New Town Tavern, Pink Panther, Blue Boar....whatever this pub is called these days! Gave it a go again last week but the atmosphere and ambiance remains just the same. Its still a tired old street pub, located in the heart of our community and it continues to attract the same type of clientle. Clientle that prevents it becoming a pub for the local community to feel welcome in. beemermike - 29 Aug 2010 08:01 |
Been in here a few times and like the place. Landlord is friendly (and a Colchester fan), the service is good and the beer are well kept. Tend to be 2-4 ales on, usually from localish breweries Adnams, Wolf and Woodfordes. It's smartly decorated and clean and pleasant place for a good pint. The pub is also frequented by the excellent local ska band New Town Kings. Rod_Hariga - 12 Feb 2010 20:22 |
Several months after changing it's name, The New Town Tavern is still a work in progress - but progress there definitely is. The Landlord feely admits that he is still not selling enough real ales and consequently 2 of the 5 handpumps were not in use. However the 3 that were in use were dispensing excellent ales at very reasonable prices - from just 2 per pint! I think this is a pub that will get better and better as more real ale drinkers discover it - unfortunately that will probably mean the prices going up but for the time being the beer is excellent value. Recommended. olderbutnotwiser - 7 Nov 2009 13:17 |
Thought I would give it a go now its reopened and changed hands. Not worth bothering! Same old tired out pub with some very shady characters frequenting it again. I Won't say what I really think about it because I'm conscious of the site's review policy, but the landlord does need to get a grip before it reverts to form. beemermike - 26 Jul 2009 04:01 |
