Refurbished and a genuine gem now. Good ales and a lovely staggered garden out the back. Biff10 - 28 Oct 2014 15:52 |
hi, normally the words charles wells put me off but this pubs a gem, knowledgeable friendly staff, must be 10+ hand pumps of interesting beers from 3 to 7% ( £3.30 ) as well as some wells and b&t regulars, good decor and very clean, great chip shop next door. THUNFAN007 - 30 Mar 2014 16:55 |
This has a new landlady who is doing a brilliant job- friendly/clean pub. Great for real ale drinkers. It is a proper old fashioned style pub and a great pub to take a book and try the ales-you can have 3 x a third of pint to try a few and as they don't serve food the landlady said today she allows people to bring chips in from the chip shop next door !- great - real ale, fish and chips from a good chippie and a good chat - no loud music, quiet, safe place for a pint. I am a 47 year old lady and would quite happily sit in there with a newspaper - it's maybe not a pub for dressing up for but it's a 'proper' pub and Hitchin needs that. Clean - wooden floors, bar skittles game, smoking area undercover out the back - a grassed garden and car park which I never knew of previously. I also think it's a much more serious beer drinkers pub than the Half Moon with a good welcome. The photo above does no favour for The Bricklayers - it has since been done up! A really top pub for the real ale drinker with 12 handpumps, of which 3 were dispensing ale from the local Shefford brewery. I visited this pub towards the end of my Hitchin Christmas pub crawl, and by this stage I probably missed a few of its finer points. There's also a good chippy next door if you need to soak up the Bricklayer's excellent real ale. It is probably just edged out of Hitchin's number one pub spot by the Half Moon which has a slightly cosier feel. Number11 - 21 Dec 2013 18:57 |
