I've been drinking in this pub for over 10 years, but I'm a very infrequent visitor. There is good selection of Ales and Larger and the staff are friendly enough. I have not eaten here so can't comment on the food. The garden is huge and as others have said well fenced so it's great for small children. The decor is a little dated to be frank and that is sure to put some people off. The toilets are clean enough, just dated. I've never noticed any strange Smells. When ever I see a glowing revue or a highly critical one, I always look at how many reviews that person has made. If its only a couple it makes me suspicious that this is some under-hand play by a disgruntled employee or another Publican. SirTricky - 20 Jun 2014 11:45 |
Visited this traditional pub on many occasions with our children, as it has a lovely garden which they like to play in, while we enjoy a drink watching them. It is on a road but is perfectly safe as it is all fenced off. We often visit when they prepare their hog roasts or summer BBQs which makes for a nice afternoon out. The cold beer keeps hubby happy to!! Would recommend this Pub for its selection of beers, good food and friendly staff. chrisndave - 24 Feb 2012 11:12 |
If you like great beer, a brilliantly friendly atmosphere and a landlord and landlady who are a pleasure to speak to, then look no further than the chequers. I've only been going there for a year or two every now and then but I can't understand the other reviews that have been placed on here. There is no smell of stale beer, the people behind the bar are always very hygienic!! friendly and happy to help. Moreover, the toilets are always in a good condition and kept very clean (I hear the ladies are even better). Sure, the place has a dated feel - but that's why it's such a great pub. It's homely and full of great people from millionaires (no kidding) to students through to your typical regular. If you want fancy decor then bugger off elsewhere, it's about the experience here, not whether the light fixtures are new. jimbobjonesy - 18 Oct 2011 00:43 |
Awful awful awful! We were driving through and thought this may look like a nice place for the children to enjoy an afternoon, how wrong were we! it looks like steptoes when you walk in, then stench from the toilet is unbearable. The owners look as though they need a good wash, we didn't even bother to think about eating in there after we saw the dog barking its head off at us when we walked past what must of been the kitchen from the back. We will not be returning, such a shame as the garden is ideal for families. I just wish we would of read the reviews here before we stopped! itchyandscratchy - 4 Oct 2011 12:30 |
This pub is the worst in Potters Bar, the toilets are putrid and are ever clean, its disgusting. There is no dishwasher for the glasses, they are washed in a dirty sink by hand. There is dog hair everywhere, as a big alsation which is not very friendly strolls around behind the bar and in the kitchen, not very health & safety! I would not recommend this pub to anyone, the landlady didn't seem too bad, but the landlord is extremely rude. The food is not too bad, but from the cleaniness of the place you wouldn't want to think what state the kitchen is in. The only redeeming feature would be the garden for children, although the toys there are very shabby and alot are broken. I would suggest another 2 minutes up the road to Old Owens, or The Two Brewers, much more hygenic, friendlier and hospitable. jennyfromtheblock - 29 Jun 2011 12:53 |
