This bar is in a great location i.e the New Town and potentially good to call in for a drink if you're visiting central Edinburgh and want to drink in a gay pub. Sadly the experience tends to be off-set by the staff who have a tendency to be unpleasant/unhelpful. I think this may reflect the idea that if you're visiting a gay pub you won't expect other than rather surly service. I made the mistake recently of asking politely (and before the pint was pulled) if a particular white- beer was cold or chilled. I had been served a pint of the said beer before at room temp so thought it reasonable to check. This enquiry was met with some indignation but I accepted the assurance and paid for the beer. Oddly the beer was given to me and was again at room temp. I queried this (again politely) but was given short shrift, dismissed as though I was being unreasonable. This might be forgettable if it was a one off but sadly, I think, it reflects the general 'tenor' of things there. If you have a choice you might want to try elsewhere but I suspect there isn't that much choice for the local gay guys. conor - 6 Sep 2005 20:09 |
