A glorious interior that is topped off by a ceiling that somehow manages to trump everything but this pub, despite a goodly selection of beers, attracts too many men of a certain age (mine, as it turns out) to be truly enjoyable. The stark lighting could also be dimmed. Fullers’ Red Fox was a decidedly Sassenach choice on our visit. BoehmBawerk - 21 Jan 2018 09:48 |
Been here before but it took the CAMRA Pub Walk in Edinburgh to really point out its beauty. Look to the ceiling. Look to the tiling. Look to the central Island Bar. A 1st Timothy Taylor Mild consumed in one of the nicer pubs in Rose Street. Visit Blogged at http://bit.ly/2rTWydn Mappiman - 25 May 2017 13:31 |
Really good old style pub. Décor & island bar Victorian. 5 real ales. Very friendly & service-oriented staff. Have eaten here too & food just fine. WiFi by O2, but free after a fussy registration. Nice atmosphere - we'll be back. deuchyboy - 30 Jun 2013 19:42 |
Very good pub and well worth a visit. Beer was good and served quick. Very victorian interior, yet one more to add to my "must visit again" list. paulbeckett - 12 Apr 2013 19:12 |
Another good nicholsons pub on Rose Street. Part of literary tour and Scottish beer was good. got a pint replaced after it tasted off. Old fashioned décor like many in area so another to add to the list. busker999 - 8 Apr 2013 20:36 |
