Nice, friendly locals pub with 5 ales from Palmers including the excellent Tally Ho baxterfish - 14 Feb 2017 14:32 |
A fine looking place both inside and out down a historic back street. I wished i had known that this pub had a lunch time menu as i had just scoffed a sausage roll in the churchyard minutes before. It is the most expensive pub in Axminster (Palmers brewery what do you expect). It did also lack a bit of atmosphere. I would pop in again but only to try out the food as no other pubs in the town centre were doing any at all. 6/10 montie49 - 2 Jun 2013 14:03 |
Walked in here a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday Night and there were 3 of us in there. The larger was the most expensive in Axminster 3.50 a pint. There are only the 3 pubs in the center (Axminster Inn - 3.50, Red Lion - 2.50 and the Castle Inn - 2.60) so you can see why there wer only 3 people in. Its nothing special, tucked away but without creed could be so much more. slugger40 - 9 Jun 2012 12:27 |
Called in yesterday afternoon, glad to see this classic back street boozer still open, very good pint of Palmers, seems to be open all day still and looked like it had been recently cleaned and painted up. A must when in Axminster! Hodge1 - 20 Mar 2012 13:44 |
Was open last week !! Was looking forward to this one but ended up disappointed. On the bar was a folder containing pictures and articles on the pub in bygone days - a great idea which other places would to well to adopt. One of the newspaper cuttings detailed how the pub had until recently been in the same family for 125 years and that you could walk in and be transported back 50 years and where in the public bar all you would hear was the murmur of the farmers. It went on to say that they hadnt succumbed to the plague of fruit machines and piped music. Sadly that is now not the case. The racket from the radio in the lounge bar forced us into the public bar. Staff canoodling behind the bar was decidedly off putting. Horrid place now im afraid. nickthefish - 14 Sep 2008 08:42 |
