First rate little village pub. Get there early to get a seat (or a parking spot for that matter): this place is really drawing them in at the moment. Good selection of cask beers, friendly efficient service. The food looks as though it might be good too.

Called in on a friday night and the place was packed. Really lively atmosphere, nice mixed crowd, plenty of bar staff and good service. My pint of Adnams tasted a bit sour so I switched to Wherry which was excellent. This is a great little pub - in the middle of nowhere, Hawkedon more a hamlet than a village - but v. atmospheric and well worth a visit.

Went for sunday lunch and have to say that although its not cheap, its has to be some of the best food I've had in a pub in a long time. The beef was cooked to perfection. The Wherry was on top form, sadly the guest ale, which was tribute today, was finished. But the St Peters fruit beer (grapefruit) was gorgeous. Beautiful Building, friendly staff, friendly regulars. A real hidden gem this....

Always have a fine Adnams Bitter and Woodfords Wherry on tap and several guest ales the 'Doom Bar' goes very quickly!

Found it best to book ahead for food as some nights can be unexpectedly busy.

Always find a few characters at the bar and the pub seems to cater well for drinkers and foodies alike.

Happy to take the 14 mile round trip 5-6 times a month to visit this place!

Visited this pub twice recently at lunchtime; closed, both times. Drove on to a very good place in Whepsted a couple of miles away.

I'll give it one more try tomorrow...
