I agree the chef here is brilliant at what he does pity his boss is such an rude, obnoxious little dictater with the only pub in methwold as his to rule sloshedsometimes - 17 Oct 2007 14:45 |
The previous reviewer must have entered some sort of parallel universe when he visited this pub. It has, without doubt, some of the best food to be had for at least a ten mile radius (as a trained chef I have pretty high standards) - and this is proper food, not deep-frozen, deep-fried, massproduced pub grup. The prices quoted in the previous review are entirely misleading - my family eats there regularly for an average of 20 a head for two/three courses and have no complaints about the value for money delivered. We have also recommended it to many many friends who have all praised the food and experience. The pub itself is beautifully presented, with a proper dining area, large open fire and ample seating - always a joy to be able to drink in comfort. There is also seating outside. Background music is wideranging and excellent, covering all genres from jazz to progressive rock (and including the landlord's own fabulous covers of singing legends including Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Satchmo etc). The owner, his wife and all the staff are delightful and if the landlord is occasionally chippy, this may have more to do with having to deal with negative customers like the last reviewer who seem determined to find fault and worse, appear to relish the prospect of an enterprise going out of business. Far more productive, surely, to encourage more customers to visit which can only improve 'the atmosphere' and better still, will give us'die hard regulars' someone else to talk to. anonymous - 22 May 2007 14:02 |
What can I say, a nice village with an awful pub. Another example of a pub trying to be something it's not - a good restaurant. The food is very over-priced 10-16 for a dish (salad the only offering under 10) There is no atmosphere here due to very few customers only a couple of die hard regulars. Unfortunately its the only pub in the village, otherwise it would be totally empty. The landlord is extremely rude and aggressive, and seeks confrontation. Only a matter of time before it closes I should think There are far better pubs in the area, avoid this one like the plague! anonymous - 11 Mar 2007 21:10 |
