The Queens Head is located in the lovely village of Eye. I arrived shortly after it had re-opened for the evening yesterday at 5pm. There is a large public car park to the rear. Staff seemed to be friendly. No music or TV. But I don't mind this, as long as there is a friendly atmosphere. Ales are dispensed from casks behind the bar. Only 2 of the casks were ready, with Adnams Bitter & Woodfordes Wherry both on. As with all pubs around here, the only draught cider was Aspalls. But I did notice that they also had a keg version of their Peronnelle Blush. The pub also seems to have an emphasis on food, with tapas a speciality. One of the better pubs I tried yesterday and in a lovely location. blue_scrumpy - 11 Aug 2013 10:07 |
Apologies as the last comment should apply to the Blue Boar Eye Cambs anonymous - 26 Feb 2013 17:04 |
Community pub, as in it feels more like a community centre than a pub. Ale was just about drinkable. Open plan set up okay for the locals but nowhere for outsiders to roost. anonymous - 26 Feb 2013 17:02 |
The Queens Head has recently undergone an extensive renovation project under the new owner and while retaining its charming beams and 'old pub' feel, offers a sympathetically modern and bright bar and pool area with spacious beer garden. Ales are well kept and gravity fed from the keg behind the bar and with Adnams being a personal favourite. Also noticed Doom Bar on my last visit. Pub food is served with interesting dishes such as the Tapas great for sharing over a couple of drinks. Eye once again has a community pub to be proud of and is definitely worth a visit. Is definitely open, as the last remaining pub in Eye. Adnams and Summer Lightning when we dropped in. Nice building, indifferent otherwise. Never seen so many other closed pubs in one town though. Apparently there used to be 28. swcooper - 11 Jul 2010 00:25 |
