Hi, I work full time at The Cross Keys and just wish to reply to blue scrumpy below- Apologies if you didn't receive a warm welcome from the barman (I would like to think I welcome everyone warmly!) and the 'locals'-I find this very odd as we often have tourists/visitors to the area comment on how friendly and often chatty most of our regulars are so, being the summer holidays, I would be inclined to think the strange looks would not be from our regulars. I also assume you visited us on the restaurant side as a TV has been in place in our public bar since the current management took over 2 years ago, as has the Juke Box. During restaurant opening hours we have back round music along with Folk music and karaoke once a month in the bar (In which a great night is generally had by al who attend). As with The Bell Inn at Rickinghall, we are a warm and friendly village pub, admittedly on occasion (as with most village pubs) we do have our quiet times which of course, affects atmosphere. Nice looking pub in a pretty Suffolk village, complete with duck pond. The barman wasn't too welcoming. It took a while to get his attention as he was reading a newspaper in the back bar, whilst locals were giving some very strange looks, as I clearly wasn't from these parts and may have been looking to cause some trouble! Nevertheless, the pub seemingly offers a number of events to attract patrons. A notice in the gents advertised a sausage and cider festival last weekend and a beer festival for the next bank holiday. There is no music or TVs. But atmosphere was lacking a little. Beers on were Growler Gladness & Adnams Bitter. Try the Bell Inn at Rickinghall, which is not too far away but not listed on here, for a better atmosphere and a nicer atmosphere. blue_scrumpy - 11 Aug 2013 10:00 |
pub changed hands couple of months ago, BIG improvement! refurbed and a degree of atmosphere has returned.....the new licensees are more sociable and food seems to be good (not tried myself).......if you stopped coming here coz you lost the will to live- give it another go! hopsgreennyellow - 2 Nov 2011 14:05 |

Nice quiet old village pub. The landlord is really friendly bloke who knows his beers and his pubs as he used travel the country as a lorry driver and would sample local beers in the many places he stopped over night. This was a Ridleys pub for a while and served some superb Tolly Cobbold bitter which was well worth a trip for a pint, however the villagers didnt like it because it was different and it has since switched to Greene King like every other pub in the area. Shame. The landlord is still a nice chap though. frogmorris - 4 Sep 2005 22:24 |
