Forgot to add to previous comment, this is now a freehouse, and no longer tied to Greene King triumph - 10 Apr 2016 16:39 |
A great traditional pub that currently serves 4 well kept ales. The Maggs Mild is a particular favourite of mine. It has a loyal band of locals , but is extremely welcoming to new visitors. There are regular quiz nights and music events, but don't expect food. Re an earlier 2013 comment....the toilets have been re-decorated to a very high standard. triumph - 3 Apr 2016 17:12 |
One of the best ale houses in a town that is not too long on them. This is a regulars' pub, although not unfriendly, located well off the main vertical circuit, but only a few minutes walk from the town centre. The pub is homely rather than smart, with a divided front room and a back room that hosts poker tournaments and other activities. There is also regular live music and a fearsome quiz. There are usually two guest ales from the GK list. Uncle_Dunkel - 1 Jul 2013 19:54 |
A pub that has appeared in the Good Beer Guide a few times. Usually 3 or 4 ales available. Quite small inside with the bar area divide in two and a function room in the rear. Host quiz nights, poker evenings and the occasional live music too. Not a pub that I personally would make a beeline for but at least it's good to see pubs like this surviving in the face of so many closures. 7/10. wezmiester - 23 Apr 2013 23:18 |
