Lovely pub. Now under new management. Adnams Sothwold bitter and two guests from a local micro. apologue73 - 9 Dec 2014 14:43 |
Had lunch here yesterday with the family after a visit to Jimmy's Farm. Better value than Jimmy's! Lovely food, nice atmosphere. Beers on were Adnams, Crouch Vale Brewers Gold, Cliff Quay Tolly Roger (which I had and thoroughly enjoyed) and Red Fox Porter (my wife had this and I tried some - excellent.) Recommended. metrology_man - 6 Mar 2011 14:07 |
If it wasn't for the comment about the landlord wearing black, then I would think the last person had the wrong pub! They do sell Adnams bitter as well as four other varying beers, including Brewers Gold, Mild, many Woodfordes beers, and Cliff Key brewery beers. The food Is good and incredibly varied. They do sell fry ups if desired, but this is a small section of the menu, which includes salads, various Meat and fish dishes, and a wide range of gluten free foods (which is why I visit). The landlord and landlady ( who wear mostly black, so wot!) are a lovely couple, and have done wonders to a once delapidated old country pub (which is only 5 miles from ipswich, but feels like it is in the middle of nowhere). I wish people would get their facts right berore commenting, because only the Adnams bitter and black clothes were true!!! A lovely pub, with a freindly atmosphere, well worth a visit. alanfaust - 15 May 2010 21:09 |
Very disappointing. Beer choice (two visits) appears to be unimaginative, despite adverts to the contrary (could almost be an Adnams tie... yuk!). Food (again unimaginative) greasy spoon type of fare, McDonalds probably has healthier (and more varied) choices. The present Landlord's wardrobe appears to be limited to black; current locals appear to think they are in some kind of genuine country inn, in spite of the fact that they are 5 minutes from Ipswich? I know the pub has had its difficulties but all in all a huge shame as I've been using this pub on and off for nearly thirty years, and never have I been more dispondent after a visit. Very old pub. Three bitter pumps, Woodforde's Wherry was on one. Good range of food, prices as you would expect, with some low at 6.95. Two main rooms differentiated only by purpose - one is the sort of restaurant part. Food in the evening appears to be served from 1900. This may not be what you are told when you phone up. Perhaps the telephone service in east Suffolk has interference that whispers 1830 down the line. BitterShurn - 5 Oct 2009 21:35 |
