West Bromwich's HIgh Street is a bit run down. But the Wheatsheaf points to better times in days gone by. It has a nice, traditional interior and is clearly a much-loved locals boozer where conversation rules. I chose to sit in the front bar with mostly elderly regulars. There appeared to be a rear room with nobody in to. This is a Holdens house that had 3 ales - Bitter, Special & Golden Glow. Live Premier League football was showing on the TV in the corner. Probably the highlight of my trip to West Bromwich.

Thought I had accidentally tripped back in time with beer at £2.55 a pint, locals wearing 80's fashions and The O Jays on the jukebox. Pleasant pub with Holdens ales plus guest.

My favourite pub in West Brom, been using it for nearly thirty years.
A good value range of Holden's ales, the price of the mild has only just broken the 2 barrier, always an obscure guest on.
Large lunchtime menu served in decent portions.
Very popular before & after WBA home games.
Most sporting events shown, TV in L shaped bar, projection screen in long lounge which is also the venue for regular rock bands on a Friday or Saturday night.
Sun trap patio out the back, smoking shelter there too.

Not sure why valbear says there is a limited choice of beers - perhaps things have changed in the last 6 months - yesterday they offered Holdens Bitter, Special and Golden Glow plus 3 guests on handpump and Holdens Mild on electric. Mild and Bitter were under 2 a pint. Food menu looked good.

The new management have done a great job and its probably the best pub in the area now. The food is great value for money, and although there is a limited choice of beer, its very well kept. I've never had a bad experience here and the staff and management are always very friendly.
