I think this is now the Kilkenny Irish pub as it is in the arches under Hackescher Markt S-bahn station. If so then the bit you come in to first from the station does have a bit of a pub feel to it. The locals drink Guinness and the Irish drink lager. Guinness and Berliner Kindl were the main draughts on offer both at E5.80 for 500ml. Snarling_Mallard - 28 Feb 2018 16:14 |

I went to this bar on Sunday the 6th of May 2007 with a friend and we had an awful time. Early in the evening the bouncer called us over and asked would we please come in for a drink because the customers had been asking if it was a gay bar due to the lack of women inside. We went in and had a look, but it was so tacky that we left quickly. Later on after a few drinks elsewhere, we met an English bloke on his own. His whole group were in am to pm but the bouncer wouldn't let him in because he was wearing cropped trousers, so I offered to speak to the bouncer and explain the situation as I can speak German. The bouncer refused again so I made a silly joke about swapping trousers with him and the bouncer went absolutely nuts, screaming in my face about how dare I be so cheeky to him and calling me every name under the sun. It was such an aggressive over reaction, the man was clearly coked off his face. He'd been offering to sell it to passers by earlier in the evening. Anyway, he left his spot by the door and the English bloke wanted to nip in and tell his friends we were going somewhere else, so I went in after him (probably a silly move). The bouncer clocked him and dragged him out, so I went to follow. As I was walking out the door the bouncer spotted me and got me in a really rough arm lock (I'm a 5ft1 girl, he was a 6ft2 fat bloke) and shoved me hard out on to the pavement where I went flying. I've never seen someone act so crazy over such a silly little incident - the man is clearly nuts and should be sacked! The manager didn't do anything useful to help the situation either. I really wish I'd called the cops and had the psycho charged with assault, but I was so shaken by it I just went home. Do avoid this place though - it's dull, pretentious and overpriced. There are many many far better bars in Berlin, where the staff are actually nice and sane!! anonymous - 8 May 2007 21:27 |
This pub is situated beneath the Hackischer Markt S-bahn railway, and holds a twenty-four hour licence. lad_newton - 3 May 2005 15:40 |
