Under new management since mid May 2009. Give it a try. Large function room available for bookings. Friendly bar staff and the new licencee is working hard to turn the pub around. Apparently there should be food starting soon on Sundays as the licencee is also a chef. Hopefully the locals will return as the serviice improves and the atmosphere returns. ladystella - 23 May 2009 18:14 |
You're not going to stumble upon The Monica, you've got to actiely seek it out as it's not on a main road. Once you get there, you'll wonder why you bothered. The large sparsely furnished front bar is not very welcoming. At least there's a pool table. However, it's worth venturing through the back to see the huge function room with large, curved, leaded skylight. I imagine that back in the day this room would have been crammed with the local Irish population listening/dancing to a band on the stage. There's also a small lounge. Beer = M&B. Barmaid friendly enough. It's hard to see how this sort of pub can survive these days. Go see it before it's too late! thegiant - 8 Dec 2008 23:08 |
March 2005. A damp, dark Friday evening. A crawl ensued with around 6 of us at the Monica Inn. We had a few stares, and bizarrely Northern Soul tunes where playing. Can't remember much about the pub except that it was in a rough area between Small Heath and Hay Mills - inside it was grubby I recall and the beer wasn; t memorable. I doubt Il ever go in again. wbafc_beer - 17 Dec 2007 22:49 |
