| Picture above is out of date. Back then it was a typical working class Edinburgh boozer: a row of second prizes drinking at the bar; an air of defiance in the face of so-called progress tinged with desperation at the state of the modern world; cheap plastic seating; tiny tv high up in a far-flung corner; saturnine moustachioed, slick-haired barman dispensing keg beer and mournful bon mots; calor gas heater providing weak warmth. Now it is a flashy, bells and whistles bar providing bottles of foreign fizz to young men in chisel toed shoes who'd rather look at their phones than the person opposite them.
