Called in one sunny lunchtime about twenty years ago and found myself to be the only customer. The landlady was a little surprised when I asked if she did food, but nonetheless made me a basic (but perfectly acceptable) cheese sandwich for 50p ... which was cheap even in the eighties! As I was eating it, she suddenly looked up from her paper and said: "It sez 'ere there's a pub doon Lon'on wheer a glass o' orange costs 5.00 an' a sandwich a tenner!" Suitably shocked, I asked her which one. "'Ang on, Love," she said, glancing back at her paper. "They call it t'Ritz." I do hope she's still there! Ditchcrawler - 16 Apr 2009 11:20 |
Sorry - that should have been "don't think"! Seriously ... it could be a real draw for the boating fraternity, given some imagination. Firedrake - 16 Jan 2009 13:55 |
Notable for its unique location on a narrow spit of land between the Aire and Calder Navigation and the Dutch River, this has the potential to be a very interesting waterside pub: a potential, however, which I think has ever been realized! Firedrake - 16 Jan 2009 13:54 |
