A huge, cavernous place. Like the previous comment, this is evidently a circuit pub. On my - Thursday evening - the ale was served in what appeared to be a glass, rather than a polycarbonate substitute - but I am not sure.... The Old Mill Bitter was in reasonable form, but nothing special - a disappointment as it is a great pint when on form. 4/10. wobblybob - 4 Aug 2016 22:13 |
Visited on a Monday night - and found it to be quite full - it seems it was frequented by students who eventually left to visit a nightclub around the corner - the rest of Hull that night was deserted. On the plus side, reasonable atmosphere in a nice looking pub due to is former life as a chapel, with hand pulled Old Mill Bitter on the bar. Bad points - Ale served in Plastic Pint Pots. Not bad but I assume this is really only any good for the City centre circuit, weekends etc (and strangely, Monday Nights) SouthYorkshireman - 8 Jan 2010 21:40 |
Went in last Sunday afternoon. Pub empty and Old Mill bitter served in plastic glasses. glugg - 18 Jun 2009 21:10 |
Yes - this is an imaginative "change of use", but it's a shame about the ridiculously OTT brick fireplaces which don't fit in at all! Good food, though, and the Old Mill bitter was fine when I last tried it. Firedrake - 20 Feb 2009 16:06 |
Well, it looks like the John Bonser roadshow is the first to get here and comment. The Mission is situated in Posterngate, not too far from the massive Princes Quay indoor shopping centre in the centre of Hull The building was originally a Seamans Mission - hence the name - and only became a pub in 1995. The pub includes a deconsecrated chapel retaining its stained glass windows and wooden pews. It felt oddly relaxing and atmospheric sitting in that part of the pub supping my pint. There is an upstairs Minstrels Gallery The pub is owned by the Old Mill Brewery , based in nearby Snaith, who own around 20 pubs. The ordinary bitter had quite a sharp, bittery flavour. The Mission was virtually deserted on my mid week evening visit, although I was told it's popular at weekends. In conclusion, I would not describe the pub as a "must visit pub", unlike Ye Olde White Hart and Ye Olde Black Boy, but it's worth calling in if you get the opportunity and like something different JohnBonser - 13 Apr 2007 13:02 |
