The Grand Hotel was the first of 6 pubs I visited in Bishop Auckland on Friday evening and Saturday lunchtime. It's a fairly basic pub inside. But locals and staff are friendly. Karaoke was on during my Friday visit. The landlord spent a good while chatting to me about the pubs in the town. The pub has accommodation. But unfortunately, I'd booked the Premier Inn on the outskirts of town. The Grand is near the station and much more central. Two handpulls were clipped with George Samuel Brewing Company Harvey & Yard of Ale Four Gold Hop. But a better surprise for me were the 3 real ciders - Weston's Old Rosie, Lilley's Mango Cider & Sandford Orchards Cider Ginger. This was certainly one of the better pubs in the town. I also visited the Station Hotel, the Green Tree, the Bay Horse and Pollards. None of these are listed on the site. The last two are the only two worth adding.

This is my "local" despite living in Darlington ! I manage to get here at weekends.Very knowledgable landlady and landlord who care about what they're serving...and at a great price.
Very welcoming with a friendly crowd...a hidden gem in Bishop Auckland for those who wish to escape the mainstream.
Also serve Bavaria non-alcoholic beer for those who are driving !
A great live music venue, mainly for the "rock" fan.
This pub should be full to the rafters every Saturday..!

Was served a pint of pure murk which the lady behind the bar (although she admitted that she was only covering) thought was okay. Had two halves of other brews but neither were anythng good. More a music venue but if this is the best ale you'll get in BA then I'd give the whole town a miss.

Easily the best pub for real ale in Bish and the one to visit. It's slightly out of town and up a hill but worth the trek! A great choice of real ales and friendly atmosphere in a classic old building, although the interior of the pub is now open plan. Recommended.

A grand pub hidden away under the railway bridge behind ASDA car park. An afternoon drink of First Yard from Surtees Brew pub Ferryhill had a nutty and treacle flavour at 3.8%. Missed on Grand owns brew because not ready, so I need to call in again. Friendly staff.
