I have been going to the Fox and Hounds for a very long time. My family live in the neighbouring town and we would come here for family days out. Later on, I often would meet up with friends here on weekends when I returned from University. When I returned to Scotland, I was enthusiastic to come back to the Fox and Hounds to enjoy another evening with friends at this lovely country pub in the heart of a quaint conservation village. However, the Fox and Hounds has changed ownership and we arrived to the sight of several drunk youths outside the door of the pub and loud music coming from inside. We retreated to the lounge bar and tried to ignore the maelstrom next door. It was not possible, the music made talking difficult and the occasional interruption by the dance party attendees into the lounge bar was not very pleasant. It seems to have changed from "the place to be" in Houston to a low rent bar that stands out for all of the wrong reasons in this village . Eventually, we just gave up and moved to the nearby Houston Inn. I am not a big fan of this place but it was definitely an improvement over the Fox and Hounds. It is a shame that the Fox has decided take this direction. They may attract youths to drink cheaply on a Friday night but they will lose folks who enjoy the character of a village pub. I am definitely not going back. jamescampbell - 20 Feb 2013 11:19 |
Popped into the Fox & Hounds for a quick couple of pints before lunch. A bit quiet, although my colleauge and I were made to feel welcome by the girls behind the bar and the brewer who stopped for a chat, probably realising that we were not locals. I consumed a very pleasant couple of pints of Peter's Well which were served in excellent condition and certainly to my taste. A light coloured bitter with a hoppy, bitter finish. Although described as a sweet beer in the Good Beer Guide, I did not find it excessively so. I shall certainly return when I have more time. topsailjon - 5 Feb 2011 13:35 |
Beer still excellent and the bar food was very good too. On the downside its in Houston which is no where near where I live . Henners - 18 Aug 2010 19:03 |
Great soup and sandwich deals for bar meals. The micro brewery produces good tasting beers. On this trip I tasted the Killellan Ale and Marylin's Delight. jbsjazzer - 5 Oct 2009 14:46 |
Good food, beer and service in pleasant surroundings. Their own brews are a refreshing change. Not noisy! My home from home when I'm in Scotland. andro - 7 Jan 2009 17:21 |
