Further to Stoneye's comment of "djs playing crap that attracts all the druggies and riff raff". I DJ'd there in 2002/03 and I really did try to help that place! Myself and the manager tried 'gentrifying' the venue by playing responsible music, in order to entice the real people in. Naturally, some punters whined like fcuking children, and the barstaff made the mistake of listening to them. They were great barstaff, but why did they feel this need to bring in their own CDs filled with foul-mouthed rap and garage, and seriously expect me to play it. After seven months, they replaced me with the hopeless kid that I was brought in to replace! Back came the garage, the rap, the dancehall, and in came the hoodie scum and saw that place downhill once again. Such a waste. I used to frequent the Tuesday karaoke hosted by Mutley. It was a great place, but they allowed the scum to ruin it. fluteboy - 11 Nov 2010 19:58 |

The Queens Head is a marvellous building, but the last owners did not do it justice. There was a cleanup in 2008 when the current owners took over, introducing an over 21's policy and removing many of the undesirables, and now it seams they are building up a nice new clientele. The plethora of pool tables still seems to be the biggest draw, with the front section was packed as a Six Nations match was in full flow and a Premier League game about to kick-off. They have two beer gardens and depending on what time of day they are soaked in sunshine, but there is also a covered smoking shelter too. The new staff are friendly, two guys from East London, and really seamed to care about their customers. I recommend you give this pub a go. john249 - 4 Nov 2009 11:48 |
This is a large sports pub with four pool tables, table football, a dartboard and plenty of plasma screens dotted about. During my visit half of the screens were showing Sky Sports News feed as there was no worthwhile sport being shown live and the other half were showing a wildlife program about life on the plains of the Serengeti. Both of these had full sound on which mingled into a mess of white noise which wasnt very pleasant. The gents toilet is disgraceful and can be smelt 20 feet away when being approached, I darent think what the kitchen is like that knocks out the cheap pub grub. Along with the six or so picnic tables in the front car park there is also a good sized paved and grassed beer garden out the back which needs some care and attention. The barmaid was friendly enough and although there is only a standard draught selection my Guinness was fine. Unfortunately this is not enough for me to want to return again though.
