| This looks like a good drinkers bar, bar down one wall and long settle opposite with a few tables and stools. 5 Handpulls operating - 2 Green King Morland beers, Bombardier and more interestingly 2 Stewarts of Edinburgh - 80/- and Pentland IPA. Only one punter in so regretably my beer was first out of the pump so wasn't on best form (I don't think the woman behind the bar would knew about such things.) | What a difference two years make. The new 'owner' was a tenant who held out for a year after which the brewer left it in the care of a tenant/manager of one of their other Dumfries pubs. It eventually shut its doors just after Christmas. It has since re-opened in terms of some sort of arrangement between the brewer and a (retired, I think) member of the local licensed trade. | the new owner has really done this place proud... it is much cleaner and the back bar looks great... pretty small place... usually packed... friendly people... good real ale selection and good malt selection... good for a blether or read in the afternoon.... atractive and friendly bar staff.... dog friendly... | After many years as purveyor of one of the best pints of McEwan's 80/- in Scotland the Ship was sold last year to Belhaven. Anyone thinking of visiting it for the beer should think twice. joegreen - 12 Sep 2005 13:22 |
