i think davior comments about this pub are a very good true reflection of the mill. I am a fairly regular drinker in the mill, although it has to be said i was originally a Shandon dweller. I have seen the prices rise steadily...it never seems to be a penny here and there, if i remember rightly the last increase was about 10p on a pint! it certainly leaves a bitter taste in your mouth...as do some of the pints if the wrong person pulls it. All in all its a great boozer with a good set of drinkers, you do occasionally see a bit of trouble, but usually find its not one of the locals...just randoms who turn up now and then. They have recently introduced a food menu, not seen any kids in though..to be perfectly honest the language can be somewhat fruitful at times so I'm not too sure kids should be about, that said the regulars are a really good bunch and sure they would tone it down if there were little ears about. As for the staff, Tam does a great job, and on the whole all staff are pretty good...few of them struggle to identify a dry glass, but you cant win them all, and there are rarely any eyes raised if you want a fresh glass/pint. So in a nutshell, a good boozer, yes it is becoming expensive...but i feel this is to support the owners thursday night gin and tonics...you will usually see him staggering about...but hes not a bad man, just knows how to make a few quid...cant really knock him for that.
Thats my lot....if you've never been in..try it...you might even have a laugh...take care

Hi every one so i would like to let others know how i feel about the GREYS MILL in Slateford road which has been my local for a long time, over the years i have had many good sessions in this pub. The customers in the pub are a good bunch & every one is friendly, recently the Moat Bar shut down resulting in the customers from the Moat drinking in the Mill which i think is a good thing as it brings in more people & every one gets on well with each other, like i said before its a friendly atmosphere. The reason i am writing this is to point out recent changes we as customers have felt from the management of the pub. It used to be that we felt it was our local, we felt a bond of some sort to management & staff. The staff are generally ok but the days of "gas meter" Peter & Vlad the chef are long gone theese two guys were great assets to the pub but they have moved on to better things so best o luck to them, Tommy is doing a great job though behind the bar & is slipping nicely into gas meters shoes. WE feel the owner has slipped up now by NOT looking after his customers!!! By this i mean the following, the drink prices are increasing RAPIDLY the owner is taking advantage of the fact he monopolizes the strip of shops owning the mill. the Locarno & the Shandon & since the competition from the Moat is no longer their he seems to put prices up dramatically at the drop off a hat. Its a good pub but now he is charging city centre type prices for what is a local pub. By putting up prices so much he has succesfully chased away some of the older afternoon drinkers who were part of the pub for years & im sorry to see them go i miss the likes o Dennis & his buddies who now go elsewhere due to ASTRONOMICAL price increases. Also its so obvious that the owner does not care about his customers now,we are just money to him. The recent change in licence laws means we cannot take small children into the pub,now we never ever had many kids running around but occasionally someone myself included would bring their child in for a hour or so during afternoon just for a short time to chat with freinds etc no one minded & kids were not running riot so it was no problem. Yesterday when going in pub with my small daughter i was spoken to badly & told to leave due to new licence laws, ok i can understand that but the way in which i was spoken to was very bad ( wednesday afternoon ) i have approached the owner to see if he can put on food to comply with regulations so children can get in if reqd during the day. The facilities in the pub are not great however the PEOPLE & by that i mean the customers make a pub & like i said before we have a good crew in the mill but slowly but surely the owner is forgetting the simple rule of business, OK make money BUT keep the customer happy. Now to summarize i would like to boycott this pub BUT as so many of my freinds go in their & i want to meet them i will continue to go in HOWEVER i am going to cut down the amount of money i spend in the mill & im going to start to drink in other pubs more as well. We have so much choice outwith Slateford im sure after some time we can start to drink elswhere THAT PROVIDES A BETTER SERVICE & VALUE FOR MONEY. So Phillip if you are reading this mate its about time you got the finger out & provided your customers with better value, better service, better decor & STOP chasing away all our pals with your inflated drink prices. Thats all for now folks, cheers & all the best.
