user reviews of the Star Inn, Bentworth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Haven't been by Bentworth for some years but happened upon what I thought was the same pub I went to last time (turned out this was the Sun - a very different breed of boozer to its competitor). The Star was indded shining when I visited on a Sunday evening, with plenty of locals enjoying a clearly well-embedded but civilised drink-up, around the central bar area which clearly is where the atmosphere is conjured up here. All seemed to be in good spirits; as indeed was I although time and the ever-pressing need to get to other cracking venues in the area only permitted a quick 'alf.

Special mention I feel should go to the barmaid, who was a jolly young soul, and her comfortable conviviality with everbody helped oil the wheels nicely and made all feel included, even if she'd never set eyes on us before. I think she said her name was Bethan (?). Well, if you're her and you're reading this, then well done and it'd be nice to have more bar staff like you in pubs across the land.

Not a bad little local this - shame it could be some while before I get myself back in here.

Tuesday midday visit. Didn't like the canned music in the main bar, so moved to the dining room. Pint of Bowman's Swift One, condition unremarkable. Very dull sandwiches: thick bread, and in the case of my cheese sandwich, none too much cheese for (4.50). This may be a great village local in the evenings, but it was nothing special at midday, mid-week.

Great unpretentious pub. Good bar - sunday night jamming session which normally attracts 20+ very talented R&B musiciansis a fantastic nights entertainment. Very friendly and well worth a visit

Great little pub in village centre. More 'down to earth' than The Sun. Had been recommended the food, and the menu looked very good. My burger was nothing special though and not cheap. Perhaps the recommender had little taste?! Will certainly go back for beers and to try other menu options.

Nice pub, good range of ales and friendly staff. However the menu was a bit limited (only one game dish) which was a bit of a disappointment, although the food was ok. Could do with losing the tablecloths and candles and the whole 'separate restaurant' look - bit twee for a country pub. Would go back, but only for a beer.
