Old fashioned pub at the far end of the high street and the only pub in Okehampton that appears in 2016 GBG. A flying Thursday afternoon visit, we missed food by 30 minutes so had to settle for a beer in the well appointed beer garden while the sun was still shining. The inside of the pub has a small bar and several seats with a tv perched in the corner. 3 ales on the hand pumps, 1 local ale, 1 national and my choice from Cardiff which was Brains Opening Ceremony @ 4.0%, an ale obviously brewed for the Olympics and pretty drinkable. Several punters in on this visit but I must admit I found the pub itself to be quite drab and dull, I expected more for some reason. A tick but probably a town & pub I will never return to. lezford - 2 Oct 2016 18:40 |
A one pint flying visit so, only time for "first impressions". But I would concur with all the positive comments below. Instantly impressed as a proper boozer with a lively (presumably regulars) but not intimidating scene in the front bar. With some nice weather I took advantage of the beer garden. Very ,very attractive beer prices and an interesting selection of ales. A pub I would be happy to have as a local. tarkatherotter - 27 Apr 2015 20:45 |
As others have suggested, this is the best pub in Okehampton (not that it takes much). The ale is well kept and is staggeringly cheap at £2.20 a pint upwards; on my previous couple of visits they've had some excellent Black Tor Brewery beers to the extent that I didn't drink anywhere else in the area over the Christmas holidays. The Wetherspoons, which is set to open shop on the site of the White Hart soon, will surely impact business at the remaining pubs in the town - my money is on the Plymouth to be one of those (let's hope it's plural) to remain open for many years to come. plymouthpirate - 5 Jan 2015 18:33 |
Decent well run pub, the best in okey by a mile. Great ales and a small beer garden too. Always locals at the bar. 7/10 montie49 - 1 Jan 2012 15:48 |
Good friendly local crowd. Real ales from the barrel. Reasonable food at a reasonable price. Will visit if in the area again. rpf1955 - 26 Mar 2010 17:03 |
