This Castle Rock run pub a short stroll from the football ground was the one I really wanted to visit during my day visit to Chesterfield and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

On the bar are 10 hand pumps with a good range of ales and 2 real ciders. I had Brightside Brewing Company’s Kiwi @ 4.6%, Castle Rock’s Screech Owl @ 5.5% and a few glasses of Darkstar’s Revelations direct from the cellar, this was by far the freshest Darkstar I’d ever had. Well done to the young barman for fetching these from the cellar.

The landlord also brews he’s own on site, I didn’t have a taste but apparently it was quite hoppy.

The Derby Tup is a proper pub with an older crowd. There’s a piano in the main bar area & I cannot forget the Rams head that keeps watch near the bar.

I stayed here for almost 2 hours and could of stayed all night had I not had a train to catch.

A worthy entry into the GBG and quickly becomes one of my favourite pubs…another 10/10 for me.

Lots of good things to say about this pub, which seemed to us the best of the 6-10 we've tried in town. The beer is exemplary, the interior, locals and staff make for easy chat. A pub like this caters well for its its local and is also a perfect place for away supporters to refresh themselves when coming to watch a match with the Spireites. Taken together, these should give the Tup a healthy future.

Busy ale pub with various brews on.. Went for a pint of Piston which was nice enough.

This pub is situated right next to Chesterfield's new football stadium and is situated not too far up the Sheffield Road from our first pub The Red Lion. The Derby Tup had a far better ale selection than the Red Lion, but we did not feel that the welcome was as friendly. Having arrived shortly after kick off on a bank holiday Monday, the pub had emptied and there was only one other customer. Beers on were Castle Rock Harvest Pale, Preservation & Screech Owl, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Caledonian Autumn Red, Abbeydale Chocs Away, Kelham Island Easy Rider, Batemans XB & Rosey Nosey & Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild. Westons Old Rosie was the cider. The interior is traditional and there is much to admire. Definitely worth a return visit if I'm ever in Chesterfield again.
