I think the kindest thing I can say about this place is that it looks good from the outside. I actually think it has a lot of potential as well, if only. The location is great, it's an exceptional building and it's the only pub in the village. The food and beer are at best indifferent. The service is 'dopey'. Very slow and somewhat confused, as though serving in a pub was a bit of a challenge. About as friendly as Al Capone. The interior is drab and dingy and yet somehow lacks even the character sometimes found in 'basic' boozers. Probably better to drive on to Settle, it's only 15 miles or so. Or if you're walking, try the cafe down the road. Much friendlier and more cosy. TheGuiltyOne - 26 Jan 2011 14:57 |
Friendly staff and good selection of local beers. Didn't eat there, but was fairly busy on a Friday night. Roaring log fires were extremely welcome and cosy on freezing winters' nights sussexboy - 24 Aug 2008 20:37 |
A lovely old pub with good ales. Or as I prefer to see it, an asylum run by the lunatics. I've yet to find a place round here that is so rude and so geared towards giving a drinker - eater a hard time. The staff, above all the landlady, have a reputation for rudeness and incompetence.A walking party were turfed out mid meal by the landlady and told not to come back till they'd taken off their boots. I asked for a sandwich at 2.31 in an empty pub with two women serving (chatting) behind the bar. "We've stopped serving food". Does it take special training to produce a sandwich, and make a few quid, I thought? I've never been back. I won't ever go again unless a visitor especially wants to see this thankfully unique example of Lancashire "hospitality". The Parkers' Arms, down the road in Newton, love this place. So much trade comes to them from here! Allan - 25 Aug 2004 12:25 |
