My first pub on a Saturday visit to Northumberland was the Queen's Head in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. The pub is split into two rooms by the large, central bar. Plenty of pumpclips on the walls allude to a decent, rotating selection. 2 ales are on offer. They were Itchen Valley Pride of the Valley & Hopback Summer Lightning. Seems to have a decent bunch of regulars who were discussing the day's topics of conversation. Old school indeed and not a woman in sight (in reference to the last review). But I'm sure women are made just as welcome! Decent pub. Moved on from here to Bubbles in Ashington. That's not worth adding to the site - no real ales. But they did have a real cider. blue_scrumpy - 31 Jul 2017 19:44 |

Agree its the best pub in a town that has dire pubs. Decent ales but only 2 on at the weekends - Thwaits Wainrights and a guest which last week was excellent Consett Top Tap, Landlord told me can only do one guest a week. Has a fantastic range of beer badges of the many beers that have been on. Good pub, nice place, but not one I would drive miles and miles for just because of the low selection theposh - 8 Jun 2012 18:41 |
Brilliant pub. Dropped in here after doing the Great North Run, and wanted to stay for ever. Great conversation and great beer. If this was my local I'd be in here every day. A changing line up of guest ales, and the house beer, Porter's, which is a rebadged Tetley served in good condition. This is what all pubs should be like - a place where you make friends and feel at home. Where the place is clean, well run, charming and friendly. And the beer is as cheap as chips! If you're anywhere around Newcastle, this place is actually worth driving out to for some decent beer, and more importantly, a good chat and a laugh. SilkTork - 18 Jan 2012 00:00 |
Been 7 years since the previous posting but I visited when in the area last week. Pleased to say the beer is still in top form. Mordue's 5 bridges in particular going down well. Locals were friendly insisting that anyone and everyone in the pub had some of the buffet one of them had laid on for his birthday. Splodge68 - 7 Jun 2011 07:56 |
