user reviews of Seven Wells, Etwall

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Called here for a late lunch after visiting nearby auction house.
It looks a typical"roundabout roadhouse" from the outside,so we were pleasantly surprised when we entered-modern,tasteful decor.
Greene King IPA was excellent.
The menu was quite broad and the food remarkably cheap.
Nevertheless it was very good -£50.00 for two courses each including 3 pints of beer and a glass of wine-we consider this to be good value.

Greene King chain pub that is largely welcoming and the beer adequate - IPA, Abbott etc.

The food is overcooked and blatantly microwaved in some cases.

Given how expensive it is, it is on a par with an average Wetherspoons.

OK for families etc but don't expect too much.

My wife and I called in at the Seven Wells at 5.10pm this week, and chose to order food from the 2 meals for 9.50 selection. How grateful we were not to have wasted any more of our money by ordering from the "mains" menu.

Almost every part of both meals was barely edible, from very over-grilled gammon to poorly prepared (micro-waved) vegetables.
We were continually pestered by flies too, which in 2007 is totally unacceptable.

If you're looking for a pleasant, convenient place to eat locally, I would suggest you look elsewhere, or at least until they find a new chef/cook.

This is a large, modern, mainly dining pub built in the style of an old farmhouse and is located in open country alongside the A516 about mile from Etwall village. It was opened in 2001 by Hardys & Hansons which became part of the Greene King empire last year. Although the H&H name lives on, GK have closed the Kimberley brewery, and sadly, the Kimberley Best Bitter and Olde Trip have been replaced by GK brews. Abbott, Hen and IPA are OK, and are well kept at the Seven Wells, but they are not, in my opinion, in the same league as the Kimberley brewed beers. The menu is quite varied and reasonably priced. The meals that I have had here have been well cooked, the service, even at busy times, has been good, and the staff smart, polite and friendly.
