Real period features, dating back 500yrs or so, great ales (Tanglefoot to die for) & fantastic food, well cooked, keenly priced & delivered by extremely friendly staff. donardbar - 9 May 2012 08:16 |
Dropped in for lunch on the way back from holiday. A decent pint of Badger, and a good range of sandwiches. Worth a try if one is passing through. cato - 19 Aug 2011 19:18 |
Interested to see a previous comment, as I called into this old pub one day during the snow, and overheard a conversation between the landlord and a customer regarding the snow and slush outside the entrance. Landlord didn't have a good attitude at all, and said that if you see snow, then you know it is slippery. Surely the same goes for beams - if you see them you duck, so why put signs everywhere? Anyway, safety apart (and I thought all landlords were obliged to have a 'Duty to Care'), most customers will arrive at this main road pub by car, in shoes, so wouldn't it be courteous to clear the snow? Incidentally, I visited 3 other pubs before this one, and every one had cleared the entrance way! The purpose of my visit was to select a possible venue for a meal for 40 members of my local book club, but needless to say the New Inn has lost our business. I didn't eat, but did observe sliced carrots - what a turn-off! So many more things you can do with carrots. This pub has the potential to be a good upmarket eating place, but at the moment it's a bangers and mash, pie and chips sort of place. garrieman - 10 Feb 2009 22:48 |
Nice enough character pub, with open fires, if you just want a drink, but I wouldn't bother with the food - uninteresting and bland, in fact quite forgettable. Oh, and the landlord has no concern for his customers' safety or convenience - he doesn't bother to clear any of the snow or ice from his steps or outside entrance. Certainly no place to take elderly or infirm in bad weather conditions! sanwhi - 4 Feb 2009 19:51 |
Nice "pub pub" with low beams and two roaring wood fires. Friendly staff and landlords. Fairly extensive pub menu and three ales on tap (plus several in bottles)....no guest ales though. Food was reasonably priced and value for the portion size. Youn need to get here by car though unless you want to risk the walk beside 60mph traffic with no path. Zod - 3 Jan 2009 22:47 |
