| I have just read the review by lizz and she ought to be ashamed of herself. This person is either a compulsive liar or is living in a complete dream world. I feel I ought to give this pub a fair review, so here goes... Firstly, anyone who lives in the area, particularly very near to the pub, will know that none of what lizz has said is true. Since the White Cross was taken over as an Ember Inn about 3 years ago, the area has done nothing but improve. The people that work there are friendly and the people that drink in there regularly are generally a nice crowd. I myself have noticed that there is a complete age span from about 18 to 80, as the place appeals to all ages. There is a comfortable atmosphere, some interesting decor, clean toilets, a no smoking area, it's well lit and they play good music. There are spaces for disabled people in the car park, and a ramp entrance as well. The bar staff are well trained and the prices are fair. Even when it is very busy you don't spend long waiting. They have a good selection of lagers and bitters, the CASK marque certificate and they all taste very good. This pub is not meant to be a family pub, although children over the age of 14 are allowed to eat inside. The meals are generally at your table very quickly (within about 15 mins), and if it will take longer it seems to be policy to let you know. The prices are reasonable, and there is a good range of choice on the menu. They have quiz nights on Tuesday and Thursday, which seem to be increasingly popular, and great fun too, and whatsmore they are for charity. Sundays often seem to be very busy, as do Saturday nights. With the new licensing laws the last orders are at 12 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 11 on Sunday. They have taken a responsible attitude toward this and have put up signs asking people to respect those living nearby and to be quiet when leaving. The people that drink there seem to be a respectful lot anyway, and I can't see the majority needing a sign for them to know to keep the noise down late at night! All in all I rate this pub very highly. | The pub food is average like any other I wouldn't say this was a family pub to take young children no way is it suitable and the menu is very expensive with not a lot on offer. The waiting time is ok not fantastic. The residents of Tranmere Park have had endless problems with loud drunkeness everyday of the week and no matter how much a complaint is made to the staff it still continues. The carpark I wouldn't advise anyone to be near on Sunday's especially walking down Otley Road down at side of the pub because there has been some abuse from drink drivers and football supporters coming out directly from white cross speeding past people walking with prams and dogs why this happens on sundays I don't know but all I know is personal attacks and some hiddeous situations have been reported hence i'm rating this brewery the worst not so much the pub itself but the sorts it's attracting how fair can one be?!! lizz - 11 Sep 2005 22:28 |
