The Boythorpe Inn is situated just up from Queen's Park, where there was a funfair on my Bank Holiday Monday visit to the town. It's a Greene King pub. I was expecting it to be a bit more foodie than it was. But in fact, it was full with drinkers, mostly the lager-drinking variety. There were 2 real ales - Greene King IPA and a guest - Robinson's Dizzy Blonde. Seemed a little too rough for my liking. Locals (one was called Lukaku) seemed to be getting ready for the live football on the TV. blue_scrumpy - 28 Aug 2018 20:04 |
Standard GK pub with standard GK offerings. Friendly enough staff and locals. Handy enough for an early doors pint. robf - 20 Aug 2012 15:32 |
This pub has recently been refurbished as a part of the Greene King chain. I have visited twice after a friend recommended it. The decor is comfortable.Staff are friendly. Atmosphere is relaxed. The food and drink here is inexpensive and good quality.Eg Mon & Tues An 8oz rump steak with chips, peas etc AND a pint for 5.49. How do they make a profit at that price? - still I'm not complaining, I've sampled it twice and both times it was good. Puddings at around 2.50. Only one drawback - Sat night it was full of families eating with noisy kids but it was quiet on the Mon night. It's a serious contender for my weekly visits to Yates's for a cheap meal. Good pub, takes its pool seriously. The cues for general use are of much higher standard than usual. Food looks good - proper pies, not just meat gravy and a puff lid. Sport shown but does not dominate. Beer ok but greene king is not great. However, landlord is imaginative with his other choices. Staff in general are exemplary. dry_riser_inlet - 4 Oct 2010 10:50 |
