This was a great pub a few years ago, but has had the misfortune of having a landlord that neglected it for years and relief managers in situ until a decision be made about it's future. No food no debit/credit card facilities, ropey beer the loyal punters deserve more. leonmejico - 26 Jun 2012 21:24 |
Although this place hasn't had any comments in five years, it does still seem to be open. However, on turning up at lunchtime today (a Monday) there were only two cars in the car park (my guess is staff) and nobody outside in the garden despite it being a beautiful hot and sunny day. Having gone out to find some lunch the blackboard outside the front door saying "No bar food, no card services, open for drinks only" had us turn around and go elsewhere. The place looks a bit shabby and deserted... a real shame, given it's location and spacious garden I'm surprised it wasn't packed on such a nice day. mcr - 28 May 2012 15:09 |
Visited this pub as part of the Telegraph food offer. Pleasant location with nice garden however food very average and service dire. Had to ask several times for basic items such as drinks and condiments. On one occasion when the waiter simply did notreturn the response we got was far from apologetic. Apparently we should have expected it as it was very busy!! stu1 - 15 May 2007 21:33 |
I visited this lovely pub twice this year, spending one night totally adherred to the fantastic leather sofas that had been recently delivered. I felt I was welcomed as a local and the food was wholesome and tasty. but the beer took over as the was footie on the telly. so all in all excellent place() though keep your heads down as it seems as if it's on the flight path to Heathrow!!!!(HEAVY AIR TRAFFIC)I enjoyed every minute1 paul22 - 6 Nov 2006 02:39 |
The Cricketers has got a great location, set about 100 yards off a relatively busy road - meaning that it's easy to get to but still quiet when you're sat outside. It's got a good range of beers and wines too. However, the pub does not know what it is trying to be. Over the last few years it's had many makeovers to try to turn it in to something it's not. They have extended the bar area, re-done the restaurant and now the bar area is extended in to an area that was the restaurant. It's menu is pretty limited and on the whole, uninspiring. The quality of food can be quite mixed too. There appears to be some work being done at the time of writing to develop the kitchen, so more development work (although this did not disrupt the pub). On the plus side, there's a big beer garden and kids play area. This is great in summer on hot days - but inevitably can get busy. There's also a lot of ground next to the car park that's well deployed as a fireworks area each November. So overall, if you want a nice pub in the summer with a great beer garden or a good place to go to see fireworks, then I'd recommend it. Otherwise, approach with caution. pbmpbm - 15 Apr 2006 17:14 |
