| This pub is famous for its live music, and the music is good. The beer is hit and miss, and at times when there is no music (most of the time) the bar lacks atmosphere, and feels a little intimidating. Don't go expecting a great pint, or even a passable ale. | Basildon, the place where everyone dresses the same, this place really should be renamed to Chavydon and the Castlemayne slots into this bracket very well. Its a great place for live music if you like to listen to the same 2 bands each week, such a shame when there's so much other talent out there, why don't they try bands like Scam69, Fabulous Feedback Band, Undercover, the Heaters and Charlie's Aunt. Maybe its the goldfish mentality of Basildon but if that's your bag this is the pub and its always crowded.
