Wow. Reviews are a funny thing, aren't they. This is a feature in Camra real ale guide for the last 20 years and the winner of Solihull pub of the year, several times over that period. And here it gets 5.8 out of 10. I am here for the walking (in the main) but couldn't resist checking it out. The decor is straight from the 1930s. Check out the Bakelite Switches behind the bar. The beer is fine - four real ales and a fine pint of hobsons for £3.40. Lot of people here for the food, but I cannot comment on that. Dog Friendly. Worth a visit to make up your own mind and to drink like the dark clouds of war are forming over a distant Europe. Mappiman - 18 Jan 2015 15:40 |
Very poor beer, it tastes watered down, and very expensive, run down decor, intimidating locals who get served before non locals, a load of noisy chavs in the corner betting on the horses which was on the tv screen. quite a disappointment all in all. Won't be coming back. jerome_uk - 22 Apr 2012 14:31 |
This was the best of the 11 pubs we tried on Saturday. It's in a nice rural location and consists of 2 rooms - a public bar and a lounge/restaurant. There are plenty of items around to keep your attention occupied whilst you enjoy a pint. These include toby jugs above the bar and a few pop music items on the walls. Although the red lighting makes it a little dingy. Beers on were Hook Norton Hooky Bitter, Adnams Bitter, Sharps Doom Bar & Purity Mad Goose. The donkey in the rear garden was friendly. blue_scrumpy - 13 Mar 2011 19:28 |
The beers never good, the company is worse, the carpet is ancient, staff surly. BolshevistBoozehound - 15 Aug 2007 13:06 |
Dartmoor was guesting last night - and it was lovely. The place was packed. Two small bars and a restaurant inside with a large garden at the back add to the pulling power of this fine pub. londinieres - 13 May 2007 11:12 |
