Went in here at lunch time on market day (Wednesday) and discovered that the pub was packed. Managed to find one tall table and two stools available. Just two staff behind the bar so a queue of customers formed. However our food arrived quickly. There were the usual oddballs common to all Wetherspoon pubs. Read about why the pub is called the Gold Cape. wirraldrinker - 25 Aug 2024 18:44 |
Visited here on a recent weekday lunchtime. 10 pumps split across 2 banks, all were on. The usual Abbot Ale etc was on offer, plus Cuckoo Light Bitter by Mauldons, Chester Gold by Cheshire Brewing, Rev James, a Queen's commemorative ale, and possibly a couple of others I forget. I went for the Cuckoo (4.3%) at £2.19 - a bargain as usual in a Wetherspoon pub. Service was not particularly friendly and I got the impression the young barmaid that served me was counting down the hours till the end of her shift. Large pub, plenty of indoor seating and different areas. A small beer garden, which was mainly in the shade, but still pleasant in the warm weather. The toilets could do with some better signage. Did a full walk of the perimeter of the pub before assuming they must be up the stairs near the back of the pub. Thankfully that is indeed where they were and I didn't end up in the kitchen forced to wash pots. None of the other pubs in Mold looked particularly inspiring, so I would happily pay another visit if I was in the area. I might get service with a smile next time. RealAleRobUK - 20 May 2016 14:51 |
not the most amazing wetherspoon pub i been to by far however the service was quick and friendly and the pint of conwy "rampart"was very well kept.its the first wetherspoons i have visited out of over 500 that actually offers camra members a discount on the already low price of 2.10pint making it just 1.79 total bargain! 7/10 fat_beer_badger - 31 May 2011 11:44 |
Slightly different from the standard Wetherspoons interior, in that it has a few different drinking areas, as opposed to an open-plan space. We visited on a Saturday morning, when the place was full with locals having their breakfast. I found the orderly queues at the bar for coffees, teas and food quite amusing. It was more reminiscent of a canteen, than a pub. However, we decided to join the diners and ordered a couple of breakfasts to help soak up the alcohol. The food was extremely good value-for-money, as you would expect from a Wetherspoons. Real ales on tap were Greene King IPA & Abbot Ale, Marstons Pedigree, Spinning Dog Border Bitter, Elgood's Thin Ice and Celt Experience Celt Bronze. They also have a couple of Westons real ciders in the fridge - Organic Vintage and Old Rosie. Probably the best and certainly the liveliest pub we visited in the centre of Mold. blue_scrumpy - 1 Feb 2009 15:52 |
The best wetherspoons i have visited. I am looking to enter the licensing trade and this pub inspires me. The bar and waiting staff are very pleasant. Would recommend. Kaykiie - 11 Nov 2008 15:25 |
