Good, mixed atmosphere late on Friday with very good local beer at usual Spoons prices. mtaylor40 - 1 Feb 2014 21:48 |
Wetherspoons have reduced the prices to a more reasonable level since the review from 2011 - now guest ales are a standard £2.15 a pint. Still has the standard Spoons characteristics, but as a conversion of an existing pub has more pub atmosphere than many of their outlets. Also, a rarity for a Spoons, has a small car park. Did anyone go here in the 70's supposed to be a great night out. I am trying to trace a Patrick Bolger (Paddy) worked on the door with red hair. gateway1 - 17 May 2012 21:42 |
This pub is now in the hands of wetherspoons. No bargain booze here though, top end prices a la Didsbury village some half a mile away. I tried this place four days after reopening. I opted for an afternoon fish and chip special only to be told they were out of fish. Settling for "simply steak and chips" I collected my condiments on my way back to my table. Well, most of them. They were out of vinegar! Around 70% of the dishes include chips and there is not one drop of vinegar in the place! Tesco didsbury is approx 200 yds along kingsway, by the way. I heard another customer asking for the manager only to be told "neither of them is in right now". { Maybe they had gone to tescos for vinegar?! } After a short wait my meal arrived. The Campaign for Plain English must have had a hand in the menu wording, for when my "simply steak and chips" arrived it was just that - one piece of steak, eleven chips and er well, nothing else. No dressing, no salad, no veg. I for one will not be rushing back here. I called at the chippy on the way home! w1lls - 2 Aug 2011 00:18 |
Been in on Fri and Sat nights and was good experience. Top singers on Sat night, had a laugh with locals, seem pretty friendly. Proper beer - cask (my b/f says??) I stuck to wine which was nice. All dancing on stage when singer was on. Def make reg visits at weekend. Not been in in week, so don't know about that. Staff seemed nice and helpful, prices for drinks ok considering all the entertainment. newhere - 8 May 2008 05:05 |
