One of the best pubs we sampled in Worcestershire on Saturday. Although many of the others were fairly average. Situated in the heart of Asparagus-growing country, the pub certainly has an asparagus theme. The ale selection was reasonable - Flowers IPA, Sharps Doom Bar & Uley Pig's Ear, whilst I was also happy with the cider selection - Westons Old Rosie & Hairy Ferret Traditional. Food seemed to be popular, with most diners sat at a raised area to the right of the bar. There is still plenty of space for drinkers.

Being a GBG pub on the edge of a village in the Vale of Evesham I expected cosy nooks, roaring fires, a goodly selection of ales and perhaps a hearty Ploughman's. I got an open plan single room - think the food pub arm of a regional pubco and you won't be far off the mark - with children running all over the place. I don't mind kids in pubs provided they're unobtrusive but this was more like a Wacky Warehouse.

With a choice of Flowers IPA (no thanks), Utley Pig's Ear (5%, not good for lunchtime driving) or Doom Bar (see Flowers) I was forced to resort to some blackcurrant-tinged cider concoction. Not good, and I don't like being called 'mate' by a spotty young barman either.

All in all a big disappointment and one I'm unlikely to visit again.

Very friendly, large open plan pub. Beer range not as good as hoped (Uley Old Spot & Flowers IPA), but well kept. Didn't eat but menu looked good and comptetively priced
