Had lunch here on the way to Scotney Castle, and was very impressed. The building itself is old and interesting, the welcome was friendly, and the food was very good. Nothing pretentious, just good pub grub, and the service was very efficient even though it became quite busy while we were there. Would definitely go back. happy_wanderer - 10 Sep 2012 21:14 |
On a cold grey February day there's nowhere I would rather be than in a warm friendly English country pub. Give me a decent pint of Harveys Best, a log fire, the Daily Telegraph provided by the pub, (a small thing but so rare nowadays), a steak and kidney puddin' that tasted just like me Mum's and I would be one happy punter. Well this pub ticked all the boxes and at reasonable prices. Well done! wilf880 - 22 Feb 2012 18:25 |
I can't say anything good about this pub, the service was awful, food was thrown in front of us and of a poor quality. The gammon steak was overcooked and looked like it had lost its middle (which the chef attempted to hide by strategically place fried eggs on top)! The plate was swimming in a mixture of water (I guess from not draining the peas) and oil (must have been from the fried eggs). No one asked us if our food was ok during the meal and rude service yet again when it was collected. I definitely won't be visiting again! AndyUk - 12 May 2011 14:22 |
If you have children, do not go here. You are made to feel extremely unwelcome fom the time you walk in the door to the time you leave. They have a serious attitude to children (and ours are well behaved). Never again. MisterG - 18 Feb 2010 10:07 |
Surprised to see this listed in the Kent edition of the Camra beer guide book as one of their top ten destination pubs. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely pub serving fantastic homely cooked food, but beer wise they've only got two engines serving ale, and one of those was off, leaving just the Harvey's.
